Our History

Maranatha Baptist Church was founded in March of 1979 when 47 people began meeting for worship in a nearby school. In June of 1980, the congregation gathered for its first service in the present building. After 34 years of faithful service, Pastor Jim announced his retirement in 2019. In 2020, Pastor Caleb was called to take up the role, beginning his ministry in April 2020. In June 2024, MBC celebrated our 45th year as a congregation, remembering the Lord’s provision throughout the years and excited about Christ’s promises to keep building the church!

Maranatha Baptist Church

Who We Are

At Maranatha, we are a church that is Baptist, Reformational, and Evangelical.

We affirm these particularly Baptist doctrines:

  • Autonomy of the Local Church - the congregation governs itself by the Scriptures and the Spirit
  • Willing Cooperation - the congregation works with like-minded and like-hearted churches and ministries
  • Believer's Baptism - in order to enjoy the fullness of Christian life and church membership, one must make a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ alone at the baptismal waters
  • Priesthood of All Believers - each church member is called and equipped to do the Kingdom work of Gospel ministry through humble, prayerful, faithful, and obedient servant leadership
  • Centrality of Preaching - the congregation's worship and fellowship revolves around the proclamation of the Word that leads us to the Lord's Supper table

We also affirm "the five solae" of the Reformation:

  • Sola scriptura - Scripture alone is the final authority on God for the Church
  • Sola fide - Faith alone is necessary for salvation
  • Sola gratia - Grace alone is necessary for Christian life
  • Solus Christus - Christ alone is the person by, through, and to whom we are saved
  • Soli Deo gloria - God’s glory alone is the end of our worship and mission

We are also Evangelical in this fourfold way:

  • The Bible - the authoritative revelation of God’s person and work for God’s people
  • The Cross - the sole means by which we are saved from sin and death
  • Worship - the regular gathering of the Church to partake of Word and Ordinance
  • Mission - the main goal of the Church’s benevolent witness to the world
